HEALTH CARE
SAFETY ADVISORY
Using soap and warm water, wash your hands frequently and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. Don’t forget to wash your palms, back of hand, between fingers, under nails and thumbs.
Stay at home as much as possible to reduce exposure to other people. If you have recently returned to Canada from travel, you must self-isolate regardless of if you have the symptoms or not.
Practice at least one of the following safe distance measures: Social distancing, Quarantine, or Isolation. These measures will assist in slowing down the spread of coronavirus.
Wear face masks in public areas. Ensure your hands are cleaned with an alcohol-based sanitizer or soap and water before wearing the mask and while using it.
Avoid touching your face including your eyes, nose and mouth to prevent respiratory infections from entering the body. Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing. Used tissue should be disposed safely as well.
As an employer, develop and implement a COVID-19 safety plan that outlines the policies, guidelines and procedures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. An employee should exercise their right to refuse unsafe work environment or given the option to work from home.
Have access to accurate reliable and up-to-date information on COVID-19 illness. This will keep you informed and better prepared to handle the virus, reduce stress levels, anxiety and depression.
Practice physical distancing by staying 2 meters away from others in public. Avoid shaking hands. Seek medical attention if you experience symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing.
Widespread vaccination for the coronavirus means that the virus will not infect as many people. This will limit spread through communities. Both Pfizer and Moderna report that their vaccines show approximately 95% efficacy at preventing both mild and severe symptoms of COVID-19.
You can still transmit COVID-19 to others even if you are vaccinated. Some reports show people over 80 years may fall sick or die if they take the vaccine. The vaccine has shown less side effects for most people but many are still skeptic because they feel the vaccine was rushed.
